Our Beginnings

My husband Bill and I started out in German Shorthaired Pointers when we were married in 1974. Deciding in later years that we wanted a smaller dog we started watching whippets.

In August of 1990, we acquired our first whippet from Lee and Deann Christianson ( Chelsea ) of Bakersfield, California. We had called my cousin, a whippet judge to guide us on who to contact in our area. We went to see the puppies at Chelsea, at that time they had two litters by SBIS Ch Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh ROMX, Drake was just a young dog then. We were shown all the puppies and told what to look for in a show prospect whippet. The pick male, which happened to be out of Ch. Chelsea Prelude to a Kiss, ROM, was offered to us. We instantly fell in love and the rest is history, he is now Am. & Can. Select Ch. Chelsea Bulgari, JC ROM. Onyx has been breed selectively and has produced many wonderful puppies.

Onyx At 8 Weeks

One day when we were at a show with Onyx, we met up with Daniel Lockhart of Saxon Shore and decided we needed a bitch out of his line for our foundation. In 1991 we saw a lovely bitch being shown and owned by Brad Lockhart, that was out of Saxon Shore lines and decided this was the one for us. She was then just over a year old. She is now Ch Avalon Touch Of Lace, who goes back to Ch. Saxon Shore Amber Waves, ROMX, Whippoorwill and many other wonderful dogs.

Onyxx Whippets was created when we bred Ch. Chelsea Bulgari (Onyx) to Ch. Avalon Touch of Lace (Lace), producing Ch. Onyxx Tre’sor and Ch. Onyxx Anais Anais, group winner and with multiple group placements, all owner handled.

Bill and I are devoted to all our dogs, which are all house pets besides being show dogs. We have a small number of whippets and breed occasionally. My love is the show ring, and showing off what we have produced.
